Employee Benefits

There are three ways to be a contractor through Wolverine. You can be a W2 employee, an independent business (with a tax ID, not a 1099), or you can be a subcontractor through another agency. Wolverine provides a wide range of benefits for W2 employees. Subcontractors and independent businesses are not qualified for benefits.

    If you are a W2 employee, you have two choices on how you would like to be paid:
  • You can choose to be paid a salary, in which case your compensation is paid as a salary sum, divided over the full year (52 weeks). With this option, when you take any time off, you claim it as “Paid Time Off” and it comes out of your pool of paid days off. This includes holiday, sick, vacation, and personal. It is not an accrued benefit, so it is not payable at the time of departure for cash. However, it is immediately available, so that you don’t have to wait a whole year before you are able to take paid time off.
  • You can choose not to have a pool of Paid Time Off (PTO), in which case your pay is as an hourly rate, not divided by 52 weeks. Because it is not spread out over 52 weeks, it is usually a higher rate, and more appropriate for assignments that will not always be 40 hours a week. Some assignments where a lot of overtime is expected are better paying jobs on an hourly basis.

No matter how you choose to be paid, as a W2 employee, you are eligible for Wolverine health benefits.

Wolverine provides a broad package of health benefits. In addition to the Paid Time Off option as described above, other benefits available include:

Health Insurance

Wolverine Technical Staffing employees are eligible for insurance on the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment (unless you have active BCBS of MI coverage through your former employer; then the coverage is effective on your start date).

There is a choice of two plans (both require a minimum of 32 hours a week employment):

Blue Cross PPO insurance covers 80% of the first $5,000 after the yearly deductible is met ($1,000). There is a $30 office visit co-pay and a $10 prescription co-pay.

Blue Care Network is an HMO with a deductible of $1,000 per member or $2,000 per family per calendar year, a $20 co-pay for office visits and $15 prescription co-pay. You must go to a doctor in the plan and get referrals to see other doctors.

Dental Insurance

Wolverine Technical Staffing employees are eligible for Dental insurance as a low cost, employee-funded rider, on the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment. Deductible is $50 per member or $100 per family for fillings, crowns, root canals, onlays, and removable dentals. There is a $25 co-pay for most visits except for routine services (oral exam, xrays, fluoride treatments). Diagnostic and preventative care is covered 100% once every six months; restorative, periodontal and oral surgery is covered 75%; dentures and bridges are covered 50%, and there is an annual dollar maximum per person of $1000. For oral surgery, 75% is covered, at the standard BCBSM estimates.

Vision Insurance

Wolverine Technical Staffing employees are eligible for Vision insurance as an employee-funded rider, on the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment. For in-network services, the deductible is a $10 co-pay for an eye exam every 12 months, $25 co-pay for lenses and frame (combined); can have one frame in any period of 24 consecutive months; can have one pair of lenses (with or without the frame), every 12 months. There is a $120 allowance for elective contact lenses - this is applied toward the contact lens exam and contact lenses– one pair in any period of 12 months.

401k

Wolverine Technical Staffing employees are eligible to participate in our 401K plan after 6 months of employment. The plan is 100% employee funded through Hartford. There is a range of investment choices available.

Supplemental Insurance

Employees may enroll only within their first 30 days of employment to enroll. Pre-tax option is available for accident insurance, short-term disability, cancer insurance, and hospital indemnity insurance. 100% employee funded. The carrier is AFLAC.
