FAQ For IT Profesionals
Does IT Contracting offer health benefits?
Yes, Wolverine provides low cost access to Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and HMO, with Dental and Vision Riders.
Does IT Contracting offer stability?
Contract assignments are usually stable for the duration expected at the beginning. If the duration expected is 1-2 years, or just six months, then you can be sure that the position is stable for that amount of time, minimally. Often, indefinite contract assignments are no more unstable than being a direct W2 of a company. It is even true that occasionally they are more stable, as they are coming out of a different source of funding than payroll/headcount.
Does IT Contracting offer paid time off?
Yes, Wolverine’s contractors are given a pool of paid time off, effective immediately, to use with discretion for holiday and vacation, etc. This is not an earned benefit, and is not accrued over time. Since it is given immediately, it is not payable as a cash benefit if unused.
I’ve had bad experiences with contracting in the past. How is Wolverine different?
Wolverine is a medium sized, privately owned firm. Our team has been together for several years. When we place an employee onsite, we stay in close touch with the client and the employee to ensure satisfaction on both sides. We take the concept of co-employment seriously, and try to stay on top of all training and performance issues, along with providing coaching and counseling when necessary. You are just as much our customer as our client is. We answer when you call!
What can I expect from Wolverine if I authorize you to submit my resume to a position?
First, Wolverine will NEVER submit your resume without your express verbal and/or written permission. There are many agencies who pull your resume off a job board and submit it as is, even though they have not formally received your permission. When we do complete an extensive interviewing process with you, and you are satisfied that a position might be right for you, then we proceed to create a ‘highlights’ introduction to your resume, and perform some standard reformatting, and we electronically deliver it to the company.
Response time varies with each job opening. We pride ourselves in being different than other recruiters in that we will call you back to let you know if we hear any news, good or bad. We will offer advice, resume assistance, and career and market information to all of our candidates. Do not feel that the time it takes to get feedback on your candidacy is a reflection on you. Among all of the other day-to-day responsibilities of a manager, hiring and interviewing is not always a top priority.
Why would anyone want to be a contractor? Aren’t you just taking a portion of my pay off the top?
At the very core of our business, we are matchmakers. We are paid to introduce people to each other who are looking for each other. This is a separate cost for our clients than your compensation. There is a strong need for our service in any economy, as it greases the wheels of the process of hiring so it is more effective, more productive, more accurate, and more reliable. Contracting is ideal for many people.
A few benefits to consider:
- Flexibility to travel and be with family between assignments
- Requiring a work Visa sponsorship that many companies will not provide that we do provide
- Higher level of pay than direct employee
- Ability to get a foot in the door if you are looking for direct employment someday soon
- Opportunity to meet many different people in many different places with very different situations
- You are always needed and always able to choose your technical environment. You can specialize in whatever technology area you love, be independent, yet still be taken care of as an employee of Wolverine.
How much chocolate do you provide?
On your first day, we’ll meet you and provide a “Welcome to Wolverine” Gift Bag. In it you’ll find lots of useful items for your first day on the job, including Pepperidge Farms Milan and Chocolate Chunk cookies!
